Getting Passport Appointment at Visakhapatnam

I have applied for tatkal passport from Visakhapatnam. My experiences are as follows.

Step 1: Go to SP office and meet the CI at foreigner's registration services at SP office (Visakhapatnam) with proof of urgency, request letter and with all original documents and photocopies.

Step 2: Once he approves, he will ask to go and meet at the foreigner's registration services a person by name krishna.

Step 3: He will re-verify for the address and takes5 photographs and say the police verification will be done with in 2 to 3 days.

Step 4: Go the treasury office next to MRO office at I town, fill in the challan for the police account , make an entry in the treasury register and get it stamped. Go the Sbi branch and pay Rs 1000 and take xerox copies as well as original and submit to the guy in SP office.

Step5: Verification officer will come to your home address as mentioned in the request letter for tatkal passport. He will verify the contents at home and ask us to get it signed from the neighbours and he takes our signature as well and submits the report to the CI.

Step 6: Once the police verification completes, go to the SP office on the next day and meet the guy at FRS at SP office.

Step 7: He will ask us to meet at 7pm after the signatures are done with SP. Condition is that the SP should be available at the time you applied for.

Step 8: He will call you after the letters are back with signatures. Make a signature on the letters and collect the police verification letter. Nobody will ask for any money at SP office.

Step 9: Have all the required proofs like, address proof, identity proof, residence certificate from MRO even you have ration card as address proof (this is must, otherwise the passport office guys will reject the application), affidavit as mentioned in annexure i, 3 photographs, 3 sets of photocopies of all the originals . In passport website, it is mentioned as 2 sets, don't trust this. Birth certificate (if any), Highest qualification (if any), Marriage certificate(if any) and get attested (must) on all the photo copies by any gazetted officer.

Step 10: Go to Visakhapatnam passport office immediately on any working day(mon-fri). Make sure to be in the line first(there is no token system currently) everyone is allowed on first come first serve basis. The gates will be opened at around 9 am to 9:30 (any time). We are there in line from morning 4 am and we were the first person let in. The applications will be accepted till 12 noon sharp only and the others are asked to leave the premises immediately. Plan accordingly.

Step 11. Set all the photocopies in order after the each photograph in the application and make it tied up by the thread provided by the security guard, otherwise the applications will not be accepted.

Step 12. The guy in counter no 2 will take for tatkal passport applications. He is a rejection expert. If he found that the proofs are improper he will reject and ask us meet on next day. Be careful.( if you are a sr citizen or for the kids he will help us very much in accepting the applications immediately) no waiting. Very good in this regard.

Step 13: He will ask us to pay the fee (1000(application fees + 1500 (tatkal fees). For kids, the fees is 600 + 1500 only.

Step 14: He will ask us to meet the passport officer , here all your patience will be tested.And he will take the police verification letter and ask us some details. Then he will write the date of dispatch on the receipt and the application. The passports will not be given by hand at any cost.
